Ever Wondered What Happens When We Click Your Joints?
I know what you think it does. But sorry to disappoint. It doesn’t realign joints and it doesn’t break any bones.
Historically, osteopaths, chiropractors and even surgeons thought that manipulation was an effective way to realign joints. And it was… if the joint is dislocated or partially dislocated (subluxed)
But for the majority of our patients this isn’t the case. We aren’t meant to be symmetrical. Your liver is on your right, heart on your left, and this is before we have even started thinking about you preferring to stand on one leg, kick with the other. Pull with one arm, push with the other etc.
But research has shown us that clicking joints can produce a couple of beneficial reactions
- a sudden increase in range of motion leading to greater pain free mobility
- an influx of endorphins which are natural pain killers, leading to pain relief
This is why you feel you can turn your head like an owl after a spinal adjustment
And you may even feel like you need a check up or a full going over for a particular injury. If this is the case, enter your details below and we’ll get back to your ASAP. We would love to help
